A total of eight athletes and two coaches from the Southern Crescent area have been tabbed to participate in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-Star games.
The eight players will pepper the rosters of four teams divided into north and south designations. All-star games for both junior boys and girls and senior boys and girls will be played Saturday March 21 at Savannah State University in Savannah, GA.
The South Junior girls squad will see a trio of Clayton County products in Tyeisha Juhan (Mount Zion), Jada Hargrove (Drew) and Victoria Sutton (Jonesboro) with Drew coach Candence Jackson being named as the team’s head coach.
Meanwhile, the two representatives from McIntosh were named — Jordan Lyons for the South Junior boys’ team and senior Cassidy Williams for the South Senior girls’ team.
For the South boys senior team, Jonesboro point guard Austin Donaldson got the nod, along with Lady Cardinals’ standout Michaelle Smith for the South girls seniors.
Williams will leave McIntosh as the Lady Cheiftans’ all-time leading scorer. Lyons, the Region 4-AAAAA and Hoop Seen player of the year, helped lead the McIntosh boys to a 29-1 record, including the school’s first ever undefeated regular season.
Lyons tallied up close to 25 points per game for the Chiefs this past season.
Donaldson’s steady play at point guard helped lead the Jonesboro Cardinals to back-to-back Class AAAA championships. The Chattanooga signee averaged close to 10 points and four assists per game, while proving himself as a defensive specialist.
Hargrove was Drew’s high scorer, while the scrappy Sutton dished out close to five assists and had three steals a game for the Lady Cardinals who advanced to the state quarterfinals.
