We’re still five months away from kicking off the 2015 high school football season and about six weeks away from the start of spring football. But the gridiron vibe is definitely in the air, especially after this past weekend with the Nike Combine and The Opening Regionals in town.

A little more than a dozen Southern Crescent athletes took part in this past weekend’s camp festivities, including several of the most highly sought after football prospects in Georgia.

Don’t let anyone fool you. The four-county Southern Crescent area has no shortage on the kind of talent that has big time Division I scouts salivating.

Between six Class of 2016 recruits, there are 85 Div. I offers, including Riverdale DE Chidi Okonya’s Southern Crescent-leading 28. Stockbridge’s Charles Wiley — considered the best prospect in the four county area according to 247sports.com rankings — is next with 15.

And that’s not counting players like Sandy Creek’s Javon Jackson, rising Patriot junior Marvin Hubbard, Chris Henderson of Lovejoy and North Clayton’s Kindle Vildor — the latter three had impressive showings during this past weekend’s camps.

The fun, of course, of making lists like these is seeing how they change, who gets moved up or down and who gets added to the list as we inch closer to August.

Meanwhile, here are the top six football recruits in the Southern Crescent based on 247sports.com’s state rankings.

Who would you add as sleepers to this list?

Great job Gabriel! Friend and fan of Stockbridge HS football. It is great to see some quality coverage of HS ball on the south side! Also – excited to see Charles continue to grow and continue to blossom into a BIG TIME recruit over the next few months. Hard working kid with a great head on his shoulders.

Yes, it is nice to have something designed for our area. I plan to put your site out as much as possible with the up coming year. I have a question though. Why not cover the entire Southern Crescent. It also includes South Fulton, Coweta and Fayette counties.

Thanks so much Mr. Jones. Our specific coverage area is Henry, Clayton, Fayette and Spalding counties. There will definitely be some South Fulton and Coweta overlap as our staff continues to grow. Please contact me at gstovall@thecrescentbuzz.com for any story ideas!

It is time. In 2 weeks, most of the county schools will be scrimmaging. I am very interested in the Lovejoy vs. Drew game. Calpreps has Drew rated pretty high, close to top 10. Lovejoy will begin with some very good talent. Most of it underclassmen and mainly on offense. The D will have some senior leadership. Should be an interesting get together.
