Region softball and volleyball tournaments are in the books and the 2015-16 Georgia High School Association state playoff brackets are on deck.

In all, 23 schools will have teams representing the four-county Southern Crescent area in both softball and volleyball, with 16 of those schools competing in the state volleyball tournament alone.

On the softball side of things, No. 4 Woodland seems to be the area’s team to beat. Fresh off claiming its first Region 4-AAAAA title in a two game sweep of Union Grove last week — and one year after coming up short against Northgate — coach Kelli Poff’s bunch is riding a 14 game winning streak into their first round game Wednesday against LaGrange, which the Lady Wolfpack will host.

Region 4-AAAAA runners up Union Grove will also host a first round state playoff series Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Columbus.

In Class AAAA, both No. 10 Whitewater and No. 4 Locust Grove will start their road to Columbus on their own home field, although the Locust Grove Wildcats get, perhaps, the toughest draw against sixth-ranked Thomas County Central.

Class AAAA No. 5 Sandy Creek has been the area’s dominant team on the volleyball court, with a Southern Crescent-high win total of 40. The Patriots are considered the state’s No. 7 team, regardless of classification by MaxPreps.

Below is a list of all Southern Crescent team state tournament matchups with day and time, divided by sport and classification. We’ll update the missing game times as we receive them.
