The weekly Georgia Sportswriters Association football poll is out and hot off the presses, with a few notable changes in the status of a few of our area’s schools.

In Class AAAAA, Stockbridge made its first jump in the rankings in weeks to occupy the No. 3 spot after a dominating 35-13 win over Region 4-AAAAA foe Luella.

Undefeated Starr’s Mill, led by sophomore running back Rico Frye and his four straight 200-yard rushing performances, have begun turning heads, receiving four votes in this week’s poll after running past in-county rival McIntosh.

Sandy Creek remains at No. 4, but will get its shot to bolster that rating next week at No. 1 Woodward Academy. Meanwhile, Jonesboro — the only team to hand the Patriots a loss this year, moved up two spots from No. 9 to No. 7 after a big road win against Spalding Friday.

Locust Grove, 6-0 for the first time in school history, will get a shot at sneaking in the top 10 when it battles a tough region opponent in Eagle’s Landing Friday. The Wildcats received seven votes in this week’s poll.

Rounding things out in Class A, ELCA jumps from No. 7 to No. 6 following its 70-0 dismantling of Strong Rock, and Landmark fell one spot to No. 10.

Check out the GSWA all-class Top 10 poll in its entirety below, and visit our site later this evening for Friday night game previews, predictions, a look at a couple of impressive Riverdale athletes and a player that Sandy Creek coach Chip Walker says could end up being the best the school’s ever had at his position.
