Tyree Brown wants to get people talking.
That’s why the soon-to-be sophomore at the University of Georgia decided to get into the journalism business in the first place.
“I am interested in broadcasting various aspects of the world using different forms of media,” Brown said. “My goal is to spread knowledge and information in order to invoke conversation, debates and entertainment. That’s why I want to be a journalist.”
It would appear that Brown is well on his way. Such a passion for journalism is reason why the Southern Crescent Buzz welcomes Brown to our staff of contributors as a summer intern.
Brown knows the Atlanta’s southside, particularly Clayton County. He knows it both from an student’s perspective and he sees it through the lenses of a Southern Crescent athlete. He is a graduate of Mount Zion High School in Jonesboro, and competed on the Bulldogs’ cross country, track and field and swimming teams.
He said he chose UGA because of its prestigious journalism program, and he’s already begun making his mark as a young journalism major while covering track and field for The Red and Black, the school’s student newspaper, and writing on an assortment of topics for eliteuga.com, a UGA student-run digital publication where writers opine on topics from pop culture, to sports, to current events.
Although sports is Brown’s first love as a scribe, he said he is excited about the prospects of broadening his horizons and adding to his versatility as a writer.
Here at the Southern Crescent Buzz, Brown will cover primarily Clayton and Henry County sports, but will get a chance to touch all four counties of our coverage area this summer. You may also hear his voice from time to time on our Wednesday night Clayton and Henry County Sports Spotlight radio shows as they broadcast on 92.5 FM, The Bear, and as they begin to appear on our website in podcast form.
Brown will also tackle some social media tasks and help us expand our reach on Twitter and Facebook. You can follow him on Twitter @brotha_tyree, or if you like something he’s written or want to pitch a story idea his way, feel free to drop him an email at email@example.com.
Join me in welcoming Tyree to the growing Southern Crescent family.
